In addition to networking, we will discuss mentoring. Krista Scully will tell us about the Bar Association’s new mentoring program, and we’ll hear from a few women lawyers partnered under this program. We’ll also discuss AAWL members volunteering to connect with new lawyers and/or lawyers new to our market.

AAWL Luncheon: Dealing With Stress And Addiction In The Legal Profession

The Anchorage Association of Women Lawyers is proud to present “Dealing with Stress and Addiction in the Legal Profession.” Attorneys face immense stress in their work, which along with stress in our home lives can lead to burnout or drug/alcohol addiction.

Please join the Anchorage Association of Women Lawyers for an important luncheon at the Westmark Hotel on April 24, 2013, to discuss methods for coping with stress and burnout, to hear stories and accounts of what happens when stress and addiction take over, and to understand the resources available to attorneys.

Speakers include Tom Englehart, Regional Director for Account Management at Magellan Behavioral Health, and Moira Smith with the Alaska Bar’s Lawyers Assistance Committee. $15 members / $25 non-members. Ethics CLE applied for.

Doors open at 11:30; lunch and presentation from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. Seating is limited to 55 seats so please RSVP early at aawl@gci.net.

Tom Englehart is Regional Director for Account Management at Magellan Behavioral Health. Living in AK since 1996, he worked in the past as a mental health counselor in both inpatient and outpatient settings. He has a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and earned his M.A. in College and Community Counseling from the University of Akron (Ohio).

Moira Smith is the Vice President and General Counsel for ENSTAR Natural Gas Company. She has sat on the Lawyers’ Assistance Committee of the Alaska Bar Association since 2009. Prior to joining ENSTAR, Moira worked in private practice for Ashburn & Mason and clerked for Chief Justice Dana Fabe of the Alaska Supreme Court.

If you need an hour of ethics CLE credit, or if you’re just interested in ethics in general, please join the Anchorage Association of Women Lawyers for their quarterly networking luncheon on Monday, December 10th. Bar Counsel Mark Wolber and Louise Driscoll will discuss general ethics, ethical questions that arise from sitting on non-profit boards, and ethical questions that arise from pro-bono opportunities.

In the spirit of the giving season, donations to AWAIC will be accepted.
